From Ferguson to Baltimore: Connecting the Dots between Education, Employment and the Criminal Justice System
Thursday, July 30
10:30 am - 11:45 am
Even as the American economy grows and creates jobs at the fastest pace since 1999, young men of color in many communities are more likely to land in jail than in a good job or college. This panel will explore how civil unrest in Ferguson, St. Louis and Baltimore is rooted in larger American problems – inequality, segregated schools, chronic unemployment, and mass incarceration. With the goal of universal civil rights in mind, speakers will dissect this interplay of ills and discuss solutions such as job creation, investment in public education and more police training.
